The Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 945 was introduced in 1998 as the firm's top-of-the-line .45 ACP match target pistol model. This was a Performance Center only pistol, and production was limited throughout the model's run. The Performance Center Model 945 features stainless steel construction, a hand-lapped and fit frame and slide, a Titanium-coated and hand-fit spherical barrel bushing, a hand-fit barrel and bushing with a hand-polished barrel ramp, a checkered front strap, custom front and rear slide serrations, a beveled magazine well, a two-tone finish (polished & matte), an ambidextrous thumb safety, an extended magazine release button, a custom-tuned 3.5lb trigger, checkered laminated wood grips, and micro-adjustable Wilson Combat target sights. These pistols were built from the ground-up to be the very best limited-production target pistol that S&W could build. Only the very best gunsmiths that Smith & Wesson had on staff put their hands on these guns, and the amount of hand-fitting and polishing was immense. These Performance Center Model 945's proved to be superb guns that were extremely reliable and exceptionally accurate. This particular example is a Model 945-1 manufactured in 2001 or 2002. It is in minty all-original condition, having only had a few magazines fired thru it since leaving the factory by the original owner. The satin and polished stainless steel rates 99%, with the only deductions coming from a light scratch on the frame from the take-down lever and some tiny handling marks. The bore is minty and mirror-bright, free from any erosion or visible imperfections whatsoever. The rifling shows like-new sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel. The original grips are like-new on this S&W, free from any wear, chips, cracks, or repairs. The checkering is still sharp and pristine. The slick action on this pistol has to be felt to truly be appreciated, and the slide to frame fit is absolutely perfect. All of the controls on this Smith are 100% in perfect working order, like the pistol just left the factory yesterday. This Model 945-1 should shoot just as reliably and accurately today as the day it left the factory. This pistol comes complete with the original Performance Center factory case, all of the owner's manuals/paperwork, the factory fired case, and a total of four factory 8-round magazines. All of the magazines are in mint condition. If you have been looking for a classy top-of-the-line .45 ACP target pistol to take to the range to beat all your buddies with, this is it! Not only will this pistol out-shoot just about anything out there, but it should also be an excellent long-term investment for any collector. It would be all but impossible to upgrade from this Smith & Wesson Model 945-1 in any way.
