Just received this nice 1st Generation Colt Single Action Army, which is all numbers matching, including the grips. It is an 1896 vintage SAA fitted with a 7 & 1/2 inch barrel, Rampant Colt checkered hard rubber grips, is blue/color case-hardened finished, and chambered in .38-40 Winchester (.38 WCF). The gun is in excellent all-original condition, retaining 95% of the original gloss blue on the barrel, 85% on the ejector rod housing, and about 70% on the cylinder, with most loss due to flaking rather than actual wear. The trigger guard retains about 70% of its original blue finish and the backstrap about 80%. The frame and loading gate retain 40% of their original color case-hardened finishes and the hammer 60%. The bore is in very good condition and the action functions perfectly "in time" with a very tight lock-up. The grips fit very well and are in excellent condition, showing little in the way of wear/handling marks. All screw heads are unmolested and all stampings on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back-strap are crisp. Comes with a copy of a Colt factory letter, attesting to the guns configuration, and stating gun was shipped to F. Dawkins of A.J. Rummel Arms Company located in Toledo, Ohio on November 4, 1896.
