Description:
SOLD...Antique 1894 Winchester . UP DATE Info... I just learned from a very knowledgable friend on Winchester rifles, this could be a factory re barrel as they did not start putting the double proofs on the barrels until after 1902.. I thought all factory re barrels had double proofs so I was wrong in the first description... I am selling this ole 94 for a friend of mine that is starting to sell off his long time collection.. This is an antique 1894 Winchester 30-30 caliber with the standard 26” octagon barrel. This is S/N 38567 MFG in 1895. The Cody work sheet says this gun was shipped in 38-55 caliber so someone has changed the barrel on this gun long ago. The barrel does also have a single proof mark on the top of the barrel as you can see in the photos. The barrel looks like it has been on this gun for a very long time and matches the mag tube perfectly. There are NO tool or vise marks on the sides of the barrel so who ever did the work knew what they were doing. It is perfectly timed and straight...  This could very well be a factory re barrel.. Anyway, it is what it is... The bore is very good with very strong rifling all the way through. It is dark down in the grooves and just shows minor roughness but no big pits or craters... It shoots just as good as any of these with very good bores. The mechanics are excellent and it feeds, fires and ejects perfectly.. The barrel does have some blue on the bottom flats where protected as does the mag tube. The receiver has just traces of blue in the protected areas. The gun looks very consistent all the way through and nothing looks out of place. The balance of the gun is a pleasing light brown to gray patina. The factory machining marks are still very visible on the sides of the receiver. Nothing refinished or messed with. No pitting on the gun. Still has the early heart shaped or “widows peak” hammer knurling. All the screws are very clean and not burred up but one receiver screw on the right side. Some dings on the top of the receiver as the photo shows. The front sight is a later replacement rock mountain style.. The rear sight and elevator are original and correct.... It also has a modern rear tang sight that works perfectly. It has a perfect sight picture when sighting down the barrel. There are no extra holes under the tang sight.. The wood is good with the forearm having a tight grain crack along the top of the right side as you can see in the photo. It is not all the way through and is still tight and solid. Almost looks like a long scratch.. No other splits or cracks and it fits tight and full to the metal. Just some normal and honest handling dings and scratches. The butt stock has no splits or cracks and fit very well. A little shy to the receiver on the left side but fits tight and full to the metal every where else. All in all, this is a nice looking ole 94. Will still do what it was intended to do when it was made long ago. Put meat on the table. It is reasonably priced. I am pricing it at what my friend has in it and pay for the listing fees. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Thank you for looking and check back often.
