These "open tops" were Colt's first produced cartridge revolvers, not conversions made from left over parts of Civil War percussion guns. They were chambered for the .44 Henry rimfire cartridge, as this one is. This revolver is factory nickel finished with rare Navy size grips and one-piece varnished burl wood grips. This is the finest, untouched, original Colt Open-Top I have ever come across. It shows approximately 80-90% of its original nickel finish, flaking only from time and storage in a leather holster. All the "fire blued" screws are excellent, with perfect slots, the blue finish dulling with time. The hammer and trigger show muted case colors and the cylinder scene is near perfect. The burl wood grips are excellent, numbered to this gun, and retain approximately 80% of the original varnished finish. Excellent mechanics and a perfect bore with no black powder stains at the front of the cylinder. All serial numbers match as well as the assembly numbers. This gun shows no use what so ever. A Colt factory letter is included as well as a letter of authentication and appraisal from respected firearms historian David J. Palmiter of Archbald, PA. According to Mr. Palmiter's appraisal “this Open-Top is worthy of inclusion in the most advanced collection of rare Colt Firearms”. Colt letter and appraisal on request. For domestic sale only.
