Description:
Serial #13378, 8.15 x 46R, 32" octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a splendid, Immanuel Meffert-made rifle that retains 80-85% of the original blue finish on the barrel with only mild freckling, some plum-brown fading, and some trace silvering along the high edges. The frame has extensive floral scroll and target shooting vignettes in which both men and women in Tyrolean shooting garb fire at small circular targets. Some original color case-hardening can be seen, however the majority of the metal has turned to a dark, pewter gray patina. The complicated lever has darkened over time, but hints of the original color case-hardening can still be seen, and a very small and unobtrusive import mark is present on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the proof stamps. The forend is lever-fastened, and the buttstock has a deeply contoured cheek-piece, and long, hooked butt. The wood has some light handling marks scattered throughout the old varnish finish. The rifle retains the original rear peep sight, but only the front sight base is installed currently; there is no front sight included. This is a handsome German target rifle, in very good-fine condition, made by one of the great names in German gunmaking, and chambered in the quintessential German target cartridge. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection. FFL or C&R
