Absolutely GORGEOUS European Ottoman ANTIQUITIES
Highly Ornate Pistol, Dagger & Ammunition Box
Here we present an antique European Flintlock Officer’s Pistol, made circa the early 18th Century. This gun was then captured in Ottoman territory, used, embellished and repaired as the new owner needed. The Ottoman Empire was constantly at war with European nations. The pommel has been embellished with four flower-shaped medallions with a cylindrical cap in the center. The grip is completely wrapped with two separate sheets which are finely beaded and bejeweled, giving the grip a lot of texture. The barrel has also been engraved with interesting and unique designs some of which repeat. The muzzle end of the barrel has been wrapped with a thin piece of metal that has been hammered with designs. The stock was repaired during the period of use under the lock with a sheet of metal that is tacked in place. The trigger guard finial was kept and also tacked on.
This fascinating and beautiful pistol is accompanied by a fantastic dagger with an engraved brass covered wood scabbard. The handle of the dagger is skeletonized, giving the tang of the knife a caged appearance. The blade is shaped like a spear point and is very sharp. There is also a very ornate box with a hinged lid that would have been worn on the belt. This likely contained ammunition for the pistol or other firearm. The level of craftsmanship that went into all three of these pieces is amazing. All of these would have been hand-made and built rugged. These are works of art as well as functional kit for a soldier.
The overall condition is very good. The metal surfaces are dark with age. Engraving is clear. The bore is smooth and untouched. The action is stiff and should not be considered functional. Here is a one of a kind set of weapons that were made with both beauty and warfare in mind. Imagine putting this on display in your collection!
