Here's something you don't see every day... A near mint and 100% original Winchester 70 .338 Mag with a VERY rare checkering defect! I have handled hundreds and looked at many thousands of this model and have never seen this before. The Right grip checkering panel is missing 2 of its borders! I can see how a workman might get distracted but how it ever got past quality control is amazing. To tell the truth though, I did not notice it myself for quite awhile, but now it practically jumps out at me. Multiple experts, as well as any of you with much experience looking at my photos can agree that this is an absolutely original stock with original checkering and finish. Just a fluke I guess, but pretty cool. Aside from this anomaly, here are the specs: Pre 64 Winchester Model 70 338 Winchester Magnum. S/N 473*** with matching scribed bolt made in 1960. The barrel is 25" with an excellent bore. All mechanical functions work smoothly and properly. Solid red pad is factory issued as on all of this caliber. (Later models had a red vented pad). Condition is extremely nice...virtually spotless inside with exterior Bluing at 99% and Varnish about 98% due to a few minor marks. A very beautiful rifle in a somewhat scarce caliber along with being a very UNIQUE one that I can almost guarantee none of your buddies will EVER have in THEIR collection!
