Description:
This is a very nice original WW2 K98 rifle made by the Mauser Oberndorf factory in 1942 and coded "byf 42". It is not import-marked and was likely brought back to the States as a war trophy by an American G.I. It is an all-matching gun except for the wooden handguard, which looks like it has been on the rifle since it's WW2 service. This K98 has it's original factory blue finish intact which shows some wear and a brown-blue patina on the exposed areas, typical for a combat-used rifle from WW2. All of the factory-stamped serial numbers, inspection proofs, and Waffenamts on the metal parts are crisp and clear. The bore in this Mauser is excellent, mirror-bright with strong rifling throughout and no visible pitting or imperfections. The red-glue laminate stock is solid and free from any major damage or eyesores, showing only minor dings, dents, and scratches. One of the factory Waffenamts on the right side of the buttstock below the take-down washer is faint, but still visible. All of the original stock hardware is still intact and is in a uniform condition with the rest of the rifle. All of the controls on this K98 are in perfect working order, and the action is smooth and turns into battery perfectly. This Mauser Oberndorf K98 really has a great combat-used look to it and would make an excellent addition to any WW2 weapons collection.
