Description:
Serial/Assembly #18, .44 CF, 5 3/4" barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is a Liege-proofed revolver that has extensive foliate engraving on the frame and cylinder, with some sparse geometric embellishment along the top of the very long barrel. The metal has a mostly mottled brown patina with some of the flaked, original nickel finish remaining on protected areas. The elaborate hard rubber grips are checkered along the trailing edge, with a vine motif panel on the larger front section, and display only minor wear with flattening at the butt on either side (the grips are numbered to the gun on the interior as well). The revolver is mechanically excellent and the lock-up is still tight. These long-barreled revolvers were made for export to countries that restricted the importation of shorter barrel length guns (mainly Central and South America) and allowed for the barrel to be trimmed the desired length by the end user. This is the very revolver illustrated on page 185 of “The British Bulldog Revolver - The Forgotten Gun that Really Won the West!" by George Layman (2006); and is a rarely seen, unmodified example in very good plus condition.
