Description:
This is a very rare Colts Patent powder flask for the 1862 36 caliber Pocket Police or the 1862 Pocket Navy. They made over 278,000 more 31 caliber 1849 Pocket Models than they did the 36 cal Pocket Police or Pocket Navy. The shield and eagle design is correctly on the front of the flask only. The spout on the 36 caliber Pocket Navy and Police is shorter but much bigger around for the larger caliber bullet. Many times you will find a Pocket Police or Pocket Navy that someone has put together with the wrong flask because this flask is so hard to find. The condition is very good. The seams are in fine plus condition. The spout screws off and on easily. The stars, the eagle, the pistols and the E. Pluribus Unum banner are all very crisp. It has a very shallow dent which in my opinion does not detract from the beauty of this flask. It is pictured in the second and third pictures located right above the t and the s on Colts. The gate and spring work exactly as they should. On the back side of the band you can still see where the craftsman soldered together the band. Most Colt collectors look for this butt-joint solder mark to help authenticate the flask. The reproductions lack this line because they are a molded top rather than a butt-joint banded top. This is an old, original and rare flask with a very beautiful dark patina in amazing condition. Extremely hard to find.
