Description:
SOLD...Antique 1889 Marlin. Here is a good and solid 1889 Marlin. Has the standard 24” octagon barrel. It is in the very accurate 38-40 caliber. S/N 57590 and made in 1891.. The bore is very fine and near excellent. Still bright and shiny with some very minor roughness. Very strong and deep rifling. The bore is the reason I bought this gun for a great shooter for someone....This gun is very accurate as you would expect with a bright bore and the accurate 38-40 caliber. The gun is mechanically excellent. Both hammer notches are perfect and correct. It does however have the typical 89 Marlin weak ejection of the fired case but it does kick it out of the receiver... Works just like all the rest of them I have had over the last 30 plus years... No backed out primers or bulged cases. The metal is a medium gray patina with just traces of blue on the receiver on the right side. No pitting. All the markings are excellent.... There is a small dent in the mag tube but I loaded and ejected 13 rounds with no problems so it does not effect the feeding or cycling of the gun what so ever. Still has the original rear sight with the extended legs at the bottom of both sides and the “fish hook” elevator. Front sight is also the original rocky mountain blade type. The wood is well used but still very solid  ... The forearm fits good with no splits or cracks but may have had some minor repair along the top edges. Looks very good and no issues. The butt stock show some separation from the upper and lower tang as you can see. The stock has absolutely had a repair on the right upper side by the tang. {see photos}... and a very small one on the left by the receiver. {see photos}... I seen this when I bought it but I got it very reasonable so I could sell it at a reasonable price... The nice bore makes up for the stock repair for a shooter... No other splits or cracks and the rest of the stock actually looks very good. Would help out the looks if you had a better butt stock to stick on it. A few of the screws show some turning but the ones on the receiver look very nice and clean. This is not a collector grade gun at all but would make someone a dandy shooter and not break the bank.... A better butt stock would improve the looks but why mess with it.???? Drag this one through the woods and don't worry about a ding or scratch but absolutely hit what you are aiming at.... or just shoot tin cans and targets and have fun... Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping packed with care... Thank you for looking and check back often..
