British NAPOLEONIC ERA FLINTLOCK Pocket Pistol
ANTIQUE Flint Pistol
Here we present an antique French Flintlock Pocket Pistol, made circa the late 18th Century in France. This large bore flintlock pistol was used primarily as a self-defense weapon. Their effective range was short, and they were frequently used as an adjunct to a sword. Pistols in this era were usually smoothbore, although some rifled pistols were produced. They came in a variety of sizes with the smallest being less than 6 inches and the largest ranging to over 20 inches. The smallest would fit into a typical pocket or a hand warming muff and could easily be carried by women.
The left of the barrel has British proof marks.
The overall condition is good. The metal surfaces have a light gray patina. The stock is in good shape. The bore is smooth and clean. The action on this pistol is strong.
