Description:
This is a “MOLE" marked sword that measures 42 3/4" overall with a 35" straight, spearpoint blade with long single fullers. This is a handsome sword that has a bright steel blade with “2 ’16" date stamp, multiple military proofs, and two large Canadian property marks on either side of the ricasso: “C (Broad Arrow)" on the obverse; “C (double arrow)" on the reverse. The cup-style guard has cleaned pinprick pitting, as well as a large Royal Military College issue stamp on the knucklebow: “R.M.C. / 88". The checkered, hard rubber grip has some moderate wear and flattening to the points, but there are some drying cracks along the edges and exterior surfaces. The steel scabbard has been cleaned to bright pewter gray, with several struck unit marks on the throat, and large “C (Broad Arrow)" opposite. This is a fine example of a Pattern ’08 cavalry sword with extensive, rarely seen Canadian markings.
