Description:
Serial #5L6489, .303 British, 25" barrel wth an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome, 1942 dated rifle that has retained 92-95% of the original phosphate finish with some silvering at the muzzle, as well as along the high edges and projections. There is some further wear along the bearing surfaces of the matching bolt. Typical Long Branch markings are present on the receiver with the intertwined “MP" stamp of the RCMP at the top edge of the left side. The stock and handguard are in very good plus condition with numerous handling marks and blemishes in the original oil finish, and the “C (Broad Arrow)" stamp is still crisp and clear on the right side of the buttstock, and the proofs are still clear on the underside of the wrist. The rifle is fitted with a period original canvas, Canadian marked sling, comes with a single original magazine, and an original RCMP inventory tag with the rifle’s serial number written in ink. This is one of 1,020 Long Branch No. 4s acquired from the Department of National Defence following World War II. This is not one of the nine “5L" serial numbers recorded in the partial list that appears in “Arms & Accoutrements of the Mounted Police 1873 - 1973" by R. F. Phillips, and D. J. Klancher, making it a previously unknown example. This is a splendid opportunity to own an original Canadian Army/RCMP No. 4, made by a desirable maker. FFL or C&R
