Description:
Serial #3837, .44 CF, 7 1/2" barrel with a fine bore that has some minor freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome revolver that has matching serial numbers on the frame, barrel, cylinder, trigger guard, gripstrap, and grip. The frame, arbor, and conversion ring are marked with a “3208" assembly number, while the ejector assembly and barrel are marked with a “2785" assembly number. The barrel has a mostly plum-brown patina with thin freckling along the top and sides, as well as traces of the bright original blue along the bottom. The ejector rod has a matching brown patina with some silvering on the edges, and on the rounded ejector rod tip. The rod has some minor peen marks at the tip, and the tip of the wedge spring has broken off at some point as well. The frame and conversion ring have an overall dark patina with traces of the original color case-hardening remaining, as well as some silvering along the high edges, and the cylinder retains 80-85% of the naval battle scene with some dark patches of pitting and freckling near the face on one side, as well as a bright turn-ring at the rear. The trigger guard has turned to a pale-yellow patina, while the gripstrap has some bright, original blue at the frame juncture. The walnut grip (numbered to the gun on the interior) has heavy wear and vertical chipping along the base on both sides, with shiny original varnish still present on both sides as well. The action is tight and fully functional with no lateral play in the receiver, and crisp, firm locking of the cylinder. The is a splendid, original Richards Conversion Revolver that has matching assembly and serial numbers, and rates excellent condition overall. Antique
