Description:
REDUCED - Considered by most (including Lt Col Brophy the author of L C Smith Shotguns) to be the first of the L C Smith Hammer double guns, this wonderful 10 Ga Damascus double has the articulating front trigger which unlocks the barrels, a set of 30 inch damascus barrels, and it is totally original.  Metal shows not much original finish just a nice patina from age with very distinct damascus pattern on barrels, nice smooth metal on action which has faded from age, etc.  Chambers are 2 & 7/8 inches in length and bores are about good.  Even has the original buttplate.  Barrels marked on top rib L C SMITH MAKER OF BAKER GUN SYRACUSE NY DAMASCUS STEEL.  Action is marked on either side BAKER PAT and the gun bears some nice but minimal factory border engraving. Action, barrels, and forearm are marked "B" which is the second grade from the bottom and indicates Damascus or laminated steel barrels, black walnut stock, pistol grip, checked, and border engraved.  This shotgun was listed at $55.00 at the time of its production.  I might add that this example is much finer condition than the example shown in Brophy's book - which leads me to the conclusion that not many survived in very good condition. I do know that this is the nicest one we have ever seen and I'm 71 years old with 50 years full time in the business.
