Description:
Untouched example of a Cased Colt 1849 Pocket Revolver with a desirable Hartford Barrel Address in the 175,000 serial range.  All matching numbers. This one was made towards the end of 1860 right around the time Abraham Lincoln won the election and guns started shipping South of the Mason Dixon Line.At the time, Sam Colt had to double his workforce at his Hartford Plant to try to keep up with demand as the talk of War grew louder.  It is said that Sam Colt changed the barrel address from New York City to Hartford, CT to appease his Southern Customers from around 1859 until just after the start of the Civil War in April 1861 before changing it back to NYC again.  Whether its true or not, nobody can say but the timing  seems to fit.  At any rate, this is a really nice one of those Hartford Colts and the case and accessories are in equally fine condition.  I doubt its ever been fired although there is some flaking on the barrel, mainly the left side.  The cylinder is nearly perfect with great scene.  The case colors on the frame, loading lever, and hammer are vivid.  Screws retain most of their fire blue.  The silver plated trigger guard and backstrap are nearly flawless.  The grips have all of their original varnish remaining.  Even the case is nice and the red lining is still "red"...they're usually faded out to a brownish orange.   The case is nice with no cracks in the lid or warpage.  Great Colt marked Flask along with bullet mold, nipple wrench, an empty package of skins, and key.
