Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester 44-40 caliber with octagon barrel. He we have an average 1873 Winchester. It is in the sought after 44-40 caliber... Not my favorite caliber for shooting but every body wants one.. S/N 291163 and made in 1888.. It has the standard 24” octagon barrel. The bore is good with the normal roughness you see in these black powder bores. No rings or bulges. It shoots as good as any of these in this caliber... The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. No backed out primers or bulged cases. Dust cover is loose but still retracts with the lever throw. Both the safety and full cock notches are excellent and positive. The markings are excellent. The screw heads are very good and show very little turning or being messed with. Nothing burred up but the dust cover stop screw { see photo}... I can replace this screw at the buyer's request for a little extra $$... no problem. Dust cover and screw are original. Has the original front and rear sights.. The metal finish is an aged light brown to medium gray patina... Has specks of surface staining throughout and has been cleaned in the past but still looks decent. No pitting to mention but some very light pin pricks on the top of the receiver area and dust cover from black powder flash.. Nothing bad or detracting from this ole 73... The face of the hammer still has very nice case colors visible. { see photo}... The wood is good and fits very well. The forearm has no splits or cracks and fits very tight and even with the metal. It does show some slight wear to the bottom area in front of the receiver from carry and saddle pommel wear showing honest use of many miles in the saddle... Shows the normal light dings and scratches from honest use but no abuse... The butt stock as you can see has had some “cowboy” art work.... or what ever you want to call it... initials??, cattle brand?? Who knows.. The stock fits perfectly to the metal all around and is even or slightly proud to the metal. Nothing looks sanded on or messed with.. No wear to the bottom at the toe area around the butt plate or anything bad at all. Actually pretty nice looking wood on this gun. No unsightly gaps or missing slivers and fits tight and very solid... I have seen a lot worse on well used Winchesters to say the least.. I probably have another butt stock that would fit this gun if someone wants a better butt stock.... Call for pricing if this is on your mind.. If not, great, just leave it as it is as I am quite sure it is the original stock... Nothing fancy here or out of the ordinary but just an honest used and not abused ole 1873 Winchester. It is want it is folks... It is priced fairly for the condition. I actually sold this gun years ago to a customer that wanted to up grade on condition so I took it back in trade and I have it priced exactly what I sold it to him for.... Getting hard to find these that I can sell in this caliber with octagon barrel in this price range.. Shop around and then call me fast !!!! Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.... $50 insured shipping.
