Description:
This is a very nice all-original and all-matching late WW2-production P-38 pistol made by the Walther firm in 1944. At that time Walther was given the code "ac" in an attempt to hide the origins of Nazi Germany's small arms from the Allies. This ac44 P-38 displays the characteristics of the late war guns with minimal polishing and machining, somewhat crude fitment of parts, and a "military blue" finish on the steel parts. This P-38 comes complete with the original factory mag, a "P-38v" marked 8-rd magazine. This most certainly was a U.S. soldiers "war trophy" and is not import marked. The original factory finish shows wear and handling marks you would expect to see on a combat-used pistol but no real eyesores or bad spots. The spots that show the most finish wear are the front edges of the slide and the front grip strap. All of the Walther factory stamps/proofs and German Military Waffenamts are crisp and clear. As mentioned before, all of the numbered parts are matching including the frame, slide, barrel, and locking block. The original brown Bakelite grips are in excellent condition and free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/scratches. Both sides are tight to the gun with no wiggle. The bore in this Walther P-38 is excellent, mirror-bright with perfect rifling and no visible imperfections. All of the controls on this pistol are in perfect working order, including the safety/decocking lever. The slide to frame fitment is excellent for a late-war gun and the action locks into battery perfectly. We have no doubt that this P-38 will shoot and function 100% like the day it left the Walther factory. If you have been looking for a nice all-original and un-molested P-38 for your collection this 1944-production Walther would be an excellent choice. This pistol has just enough honest wear that it could be enjoyed as both an investment and as a shooter without harming it's value.
