Description:
Numbered PAIR of HONG KONG POLICE Webley Revolvers

Mid-20th Century British Service Sidearm

Here we present a Consecutively Numbered Pair of Hong Kong Police Webley Mark IV Top Break Revolvers in .38 S&W, made in Birmingham, England circa the late 1940s. British military use of Webley revolvers began in the late-19th Century. Especially favored in the early-20th Century were those chambered for the .455 caliber cartridges. However, at the end of the Great War, it was decided a smaller, more manageable revolver and cartridge combination were desirable, so Webley and the government settled on the .38 S&W cartridge and designed a much smaller 6-shot, top-break revolver to shoot it. This was to be much friendlier as far as recoil and much smaller and lighter than its predecessor in .455, though debatably, not as lethal. Various British police forces, including colonial police forces used these revolvers through the late-20th Century, notably both Hong Kong and Singapore Police.

In this instance, these revolvers are marked “HKP” and numbered for the Hong Kong Police. These have been “X’ed” out when these revolvers were retired. Hong Kong originally became a colony in 1842 as a result of the First Opium War and was under British rule until 1997 when it was relinquished to China. Hong Kong, though under Chinese rule, to this day differs with China in its economic freedoms and governance.

The overall condition is fine. The original finish is 98% intact. The markings are clear and legible. The trademarked grips are in great shape. The bore is excellent, bright and shiny with strong rifling. The action is excellent.
