It was used to test new cartridges and also as the basis for Winchester to become a competitor at the Target/Match Competitions in the 1800's and early 1900's. This is one of them produced specifically for the US Army as a marksmanship training rifle. It features a round 28 inch barrel with crisp engraving and very good blue, a Lyman post and peep sight, straight grip walnut stock and a long forestock with finger grooves.
