Description:
This a very interesting antique British Bar-Hammer revolver made sometime around 1845 to 1850.  It is a large weapon with a barrel length of 5.75" inches and an overall length of just under 13" inches.  This double-action only revolver has a bore that measures .42 caliber and features a 6-shot cylinder and a bar-style hammer.  The cylinder is proofed on each cylinder, as well as numbered 1 thru 6.  The octagon barrel is British proofed on the underside.  This revolver is very well-made and was no doubt an expensive piece intended for an upper class gentleman when it was made.  As you can see from the pictures, the cylinder was made much smaller at the rear where the nipples are mounted and features "safety" notches between each cylinder where the hammer could be rested when carried fully loaded.  This reduced diameter at the rear of the cylinder required very exact engineering to create paths from the nipples to the chambers, a very neat feature.  This handsome antique revolver apepars to be in perfect working order, is 100% original, and has a very good bore.  The rifling is still strong throughout the barrel and there is very little light pitting visible.  The cylinder bores are in excellent condition.  The action on this revolver seems to be in perfect time and the hammer and trigger reset perfectly after each squeeze.  This British pistol would make an excellent addition to any antique weapons condition, and due to it's unique looks would make an excellent decorator/conversation piece.
