Description:
WAR of 1812 Period Antique KETLAND Flintlock Pistol

Circa 1801 .40 Caliber Single Shot Sidearm!

Here we present an antique Ketland & Co. Flintlock Pistol in .40 Caliber, made circa the early 1800s in England. The Ketlands were partnered with Ketland & Co. operated in Birmingham, England, from the late 1700s and to the early 1800s to become one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. The left lock plate is marked "KETLAND/& Co". The right side of the lock is marked “LONDON”. The underside of the barrel is stamped with pre-1813 proof marks. The barrel, trigger, lock, barrel tang, hammer, frizzen, pan and spring are all iron. There is a flower engraved on the trigger guard.

The barrel turns off so as to be loaded from the breech rather than the muzzle, an easier method and enabling of a better fit for the projectile to the bore. This was very much the predecessor to Henry Deringer’s pistols that would come into their own a few decades later.

The overall condition is very good. The iron parts are smooth and show their markings well. The walnut grip is in great shape. The bore is smooth and clean. The action is excellent. Here is a fantastic flintlock pistol from the time of King George III!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 2-1/2 inches.

Caliber: .40
