Description:
This is a beautiful all-original 1922 production Colt Police Positive revolver chambered in Colt's .32 Police cartridge. This is a "1st Issue" model with a 5" inch barrel. The "1st Issue" Colt Police Positive revolver was first introduced in 1907 and remained in production until 1927. It was a successful model for the Colt firm, as it proved to be very reliable, well-made, and accurate. This double-action/single-action revolver was offered in a 2.5", 4", 5", or 6" inch barrel and featured a gloss blue factory finish, a 6-shot cylinder, a square-butt frame, and black hard rubber grips w/ the Colt logo initially. Checkered American Walnut grips became standard in 1924. This particular example is serial number 179662 and has obviously spent the vast majority of it's life in storage or a safe. The .32 Police chambering allows this model to use additional cartridges including .32 New Police, .32 S&W Long, and .32 S&W(shorts). The original gloss blue factory finish is beautiful, rating 96% with the only deductions coming from some very minor finish wear and handling marks. As you can see from the pictures, these deductions detract very little from the exceptionally clean overall look of the gun. All of the factory stampings and proofs on the gun are crisp and clean. The hammer has factory polished sides that are still nice and bright, and the crossgrain of the metal is still visible which tells us it has not been polished since leaving the factory. The bores in both the barrel and cylinder are excellent. The barrel still shows sharp rifling throughout and there are no visible imperfections whatsoever. The six cylinder bores are equally as clean. The original checkered black hard rubber grips are in excellent condition and are both serial-numbered to the gun on the back. Both sides are free from any cracks, chips, wear, or repairs, and both sides are perfectly fit to the gun and tight to the frame with no wiggle. The original grip screw and escutcheons are intact and in excellent condition as well. All of the controls on this Colt Police Positive are in 100% perfect working order. The action is perfectly "in time" and smooth, slick, and precise. At full-lock with the trigger depressed there is absolutely no play in the cylinder whatsoever. This Colt should function just as well today as the day it left the Colt factory 97 years ago. If you have been looking for a true "collector grade" Colt Police Positive for your collection this example would be a superb choice. It would be extremely hard to upgrade from this beauty.
