Description:
First offered in 1967, the Remington Model 700 BDL Varmint Special had all of the same features as their top-of-the-line BDL rifles but with a 24" inch heavy varmint profile barrel. It was offered in multiple "varmint" calibers and quickly earned a reputation for being extremely well-made, accurate, and reliable. It was such a success for the firm that Remington kept the model in production until 1994. This particular example was made in 1968 and is chambered in .22-250. It has been used but obviously was well cared-for and remains in very good condition. The original factory blue finish is very attractive and rates 94 to 95% with deductions for some very minor handling marks and finish wear. The bore is excellent and mirror-bright. The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves and there is no visible erosion, pitting, or imperfections. The original stock set is also in very good condition and free from any cracks, chips, major dings, or repairs. At some point along the way a previous owner glass bedded the action and added a recoil pad but the factory pistol grip cap, forend tip, and sling swivel studs are intact. The checkering is still clean and crisp. The action on this Remington is slick and precise, and locks into battery perfectly. All of the controls on this 700 are in perfect working order, and the trigger breaks like a glass rod with a light pull. We have no doubt that this 700 BDL Varmint Special will shoot just as accurately today as the day it left Remington. This vintage Remington would be a great addition to any collection.
