Description: DESCRIPTION: Winchester Model 1873 factory short rifle with 20" octagon barrel, full magazine, correct 8 3/8" short forearm, crescent butt with trap door butt plate (no cleaning rods present), standard front and rear sights. Cody email sheet (included) shows serial number applied August 25, 1910, confirms features, received in warehouse September 8, 1910 and shipped from warehouse September 9, 1910, to order number 274511 and charged to G. Amsinck and Company, New York. G. Amsinck and Company was a coffee and sugar importer in New York City and ran many plantations in South America. I have seen a few other 1873 short rifles and carbines "letter" to this company as they ordered several 1873 Winchesters for their guards and workers on their South American plantations. CONDITION: Well-used as the South American firearms typically show. Stocks show multiple dings, dents and scratches. Butt stock has a tight crack coming back about 4" off the comb on the left side but does not go all the way through to the right side, has two Spanish names scratched in it, and has loss on the right at frame. Fore arm has 1/4" pieces missing on each side at fore end cap. Metal surfaces are a mix of gray and patina with tiny spots of very light pinprick pitting, nothing of any concern but must be noted. Mag tube ring is missing pin. Rear sight is missing elevator. Markings are worn but still legible. Action still crisp and half cock safety still works as designed. Amazingly the bore is very good, bright and shiny with sharp rifling, no pits or craters, only very light scattered typical black powder pitting, obviously was carried a lot but shot little. Grades NRA Antique Fair. Interesting piece of Winchester history that has an interesting story and would be a great shooter too (have a gunsmith check it before firing). TERMS: No international sales. Must ship to FFL or C&R license holder. Payment by bank check, money order, personal check, or all major credit cards with 3% convenience fee. 3 day non-firing inspection. Buyer pays return shipping. Layaway available with 25% down and equal payments over 90 days. Offers considered. Thanks for looking.
