Description:

Late-18th Century BARBER Flintlock BLUNDERBUSS

Rare British Short-Range Devastator

Here we present an antique British Flintlock Blunderbuss by James Barber, made circa the late-18th Century. This short, handy and devastating weapon was intended for close quarters combat. It features a short overall length of about 29 inches accomplished by having a 14 inch barrel and 13 inch length of pull. The bore is a gaping 1-1/4 inches at the bell. These were employed most notably from horseback or at sea, for use by the likes of postal workers for boarding ships or repelling boarders.

This one has a lock marked by Barber. Lock, barrel, trigger guard and butt plate are also modestly engraved as was the mode of the time period, making it attractive but certainly not too precious to be used. The trigger guard has an acorn finial. The wrist of the stock bears an initial plate with the letters “PH”. The top of the barrel states “LONDON” with proof marks on the left side. You can see a definite cut as if from a sword on the left side between the ramrod tubes, as well as several other dings to the brass barrel. This one has definitely been there and done that and is in great shape in spite of it.

The overall condition is near fine. The brass barrel has a dark patina. The markings are clear. The stock shows much use and remains solid. The bore is smooth and dark with age. The action is excellent. Naval, postal, British history, this one has it all!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 14 inches.

Caliber: 1-1/4 inches at the Bell

Overall condition as seen in photos.
