INITIALED Antique W. KETLAND FLINTLOCK Pistol
Circa 1813 Boot or Pocket Pistol!
Here we present an antique W. Ketland & Co. marked Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1813 in England. Ketland & Co. operated in Birmingham, England, from the late 1700s and to the early 1800s to become one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. The left lock plate is marked "W. KETLAND/& Co" and the right side of the lock is marked “LONDON”. The underside of the barrel is stamped with post-1813 proof marks. The barrel, trigger, lock, barrel tang, hammer, frizzen, pan and spring are all iron.
The overall condition is very good plus. This little pistol maintains its bright finish and clear markings. The grip shows the wear you would expect and remains smooth and solid. The bore is smooth and clean. The action remains strong and crisp. Here is a wonderful little hideout defensive pistol from the later years of the reign of King George III!
