Description:
This 1864 Civil War Presentation sword has a traceable history. Marked Tiffany & Co. at the ricasso area (See photos), the scabbard also has engraving referring to the presentation to the recipient (See photos). The recipient of this presentation sword was Major Anthony Johnson Allaire. The sword blade etching is beautifully scrolled and centers a 'US' design on the obverse side. The reverse side in turn has a glorious motif that features cannons in the center. The brass guard also reflects the 'US' inside it and has an eagles head at the top of it. The hilt appears to be silver in contrast to its brass pommel and both are highly decorated.
The brass scabbard is engraved 'Major Anthony Johnson Allaire, 133 New York Infantry, 1864, Gallant Service'. Mr. Allaire's story and history is well documented and can be found on several interent sites. Additionally, this presentation sword itself has been previously documented, photographed, and recorded.
