Description:
The High Standard Model HB pistol was first introduced in 1940 and was produced until 1941 when the U.S. entered World War 2 and production was halted.  The Model HB was not brought back into production until several years after WW2 ended in 1948, and was re-introduced as the 2nd Model HB with the addition of an external thumb safety which the 1940-41 production guns lacked.  The High Standard Model HB (2nd Model) semi-automatic .22 LR pistol features a factory gloss blue finish on the sides of the pistol and barrel with a matte blue on the grip straps/triggerguard and on top of the gun,  a lightweight 4.5" or 6.75" inch barrel, fixed iron sights, an exposed hammer with a checkered spur, a left-side mounted thumb safety, a 10-round detachable magazine, and checkered black plastic grips with "HS" logos.  Much like the first run, the 2nd Model HB's were only in production for two years and the model was discontinued by the firm in 1949.  This particular example is serial number 301214, and was manufactured near the end of production in 1949.  It is all-original and in excellent overall condition.  The factory blue finish is bright and beautiful on most of the gun, with only some minor finish wear on the front and rear grip straps, a touch of high-edge wear in places, and some light handling marks on the sides of the barrel.  As you can see from the pictures, none of these deductions detract much from the attractive and clean look of this pistol as most of the wear is concentrated on the matte blue areas.  The bore in this 2nd Model HB is mirror-bright and in excellent condition.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves and there are no visible imperfections.  The original factory grips on this pistol are like-new and free from any visible wear, cracks, chips, or repairs.  Both grip panels have clean and crisp checkering and they are tight to the grip frame with no wiggle.  The original 2-tone 10-round factory magazine in this gun is in excellent condition and perfect working order.  The action on this High Standard is slick and precise.  The slide to frame fit is superb with no slop.  The action slams home into battery perfectly and all of the controls on the pistol are in perfect working order.  This High Standard should perform just as well today as the day it left the factory 70 years ago.  If you have been looking for a new vintage .22 rimfire pistol for your collection this 2nd Model HB from High Standard would be an excellent choice.  This pistol should be an excellent shooter and a great long-term investment.
