Description:
                      William Evans [From Purdey's] 63 Pall Mall, St. James, London boxlock ejector double rifle chambered for the .400/.360 Purdey Nitro Express 2 3/4" cartridge and London proved for Cordite 40 and 300 grain bullet. This is the 9.3mm [.367] cartridge which is the best of the .400/.360's.  Many rechambered to 9.3x74R when brass was unavailable. This one remains in its original chambering.  26" dovetail lump ejector barrels with very good to evcellent bores. Raised matted rib with doll's head third bite. Three leaf express rear sight with one standing and two folding leaves. Front sight with fine bead and flip up moonlight sight. Built on the venerable Webley Long Bar Action. Bushed strikers. Bottom tang extended to the steel grip cap. Reciever with 80% coverage fine English scroll engraving. Buttstock with strong fiddleback figure.   14 5/8" LOP to a checkered steel buttplate with widow's peak. Neutral cast. Lever release forend.  Sling eyes fore and aft.  9lb 2oz  This piece has every appearance of never having had any restoration. It is tight and on face with very good to excellent bores. It has been used but not abused. Buttstock and forend solid and without repairs. Barrel blue at 94% with an even patina. Reciever is silver with an even patina. Checkering at 96%  Cased in its original brass cornered canvas trunk case with original trade label. This is classic British Empire stuff from the pre-war Golden Era of British gunmaking and built on the finest boxlock action body to come out of England.
