Description:
Colonel Charles Askins, who served as U.S. military attaché in Madrid in the early 1950s, spent a good deal of time in Eibar studying the Spanish armaments industry. He and Agustín Aranzabal were good friends, Askins owned several of their guns, and wrote glowingly about the Model Nº 37, which he called "the best over/under made in Europe." In THE SHOTGUNNER'S BOOK, Col. Askins stats categorically the AYA Model 37 O/U was " the finest over and under shotguns made on the Continent today." (That includes, Germany, Belgium, France, etc.) It was the most expensive shotgun made in Spain. Today the waiting time is about six months while one is built.
Here is a beautiful example that is in excellent condition. It has beautiful figured wood and almost no wear to the bluing. Notice the engraving. especially on the hidden takedown for the side clip. This gun was made in 1950 so it is almost 70 years old. The didn't even know about "laser engraving." This was all done by master craftsmen. In over 75 years of gun collecting, I have owned guns engraved by Nimske and other great but I have seen the quality of hand engraving on this one and the Model 53 I have for sale on this site. Now is your opportunity to own this masterpiece. The original owner sure did take good care of this beauty!
