Description:
This is a spectacular all-original and all-matching Vet bring-back K98 Mauser with it's original sling from World War 2.  It is a "bcd 43" code rifle made by the Gustloff Werke firm in 1943 at their factory in Weimar, Germany.  This K98 was certainly some American soldier's war trophy and has obviously been well cared-for over the years.  Other than a very light sanding/cleaning of the stock, this bcd 43 is just how it left the factory and has not been modified or "improved" in any way.  All of the numbered parts are 100% original and factory matching on this rifle, including the barrel bands, stock, and handguard.  The original factory blue finish on this rifle's receiver, bolt, and barrel is a beautiful dark blue, showing very little wear/handling marks for a combat-used rifle.  The triggerguard and floorplate show the most finish wear/patina of the metal parts, as this was the natural balance point of the rifle when not slung over the shoulder.  The bore in this K98 is bright and in excellent condition.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves throughout the bore and there is no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections whatsoever.  The "c" stamped factory "white glue" stock on this bcd 43 is in great shape overall.  Both the handguard and buttstock are free from any cracks, chips, major damage, or repairs, showing only some light dings/dents/handling marks consistent with the rest of the rifle.  The handguard is numbered on the backside and the stock is numbered with the full serial number and letter suffix in the barrel channel.  All of the original stock hardware is intact and in great shape, including the cupped buttplate and original cleaning rod.  While the stock has been cleaned/lightly sanded at some point, you can still make out the stamped "c" contractor's mark on the keel of the butt.  According to Law's book on the K98 these Gustloff Werke K98's from 1943 have a "WaA18" Waffenamt on the bottom of the stock which is no longer visible on this one.  This Gustloff Werke K98 never had an Eagle H, L, or M stamp on the side of the buttstock for the branch of military it was issued to, which is common for guns made after late 1942 from this firm.  This Nazi K98 is in perfect working order, and all of the controls are 100% functional.  The internals of this K98 are just as clean as the exterior, showing very little to no mechanical wear.  The action on this K98 is slick and the bolt turns into full lock-up smoothly.  The two-stage trigger is quite good, breaking without any excessive travel or drag.  This rifle should perform just as well today as the day it left the factory in 1943.  As mentioned earlier, this bcd 43 K98 comes complete with the original German-issue leather sling in good, functional condition.  All-original and all-matching K98's seem to be harder and harder to find every year in any condition, much less as beautiful as this one.  This Gustloff Werke bcd 43 K98 would be a superb addition to any WW2 or military weapons collection and a great long-term investment piece.
