Description:
FINE, RARE Antique ENGRAVED SILVER MOORE Deringer

Gorgeous Civil War Years No. 1 Deringer .41 Rimfire!

Here we present an antique Moore’s Patent Firearms Company No. 1 Deringer, also known as the All Metal No. 1, made circa 1860 in Brooklyn, New York. Only about 3,000 of these were made by Moore’s Mfg. Co. before the company was purchased or absorbed into National Arms Company. This scarce little deringer is chambered for a single shot of .41 rimfire. The entire barrel swivels on a hinge for loading. The hammer is split or forked and acts as the rear sight when in full cock, though let’s face it, this was primarily a point-and-shoot affair.
These pistols are of all metal construction with a silver plated brass frame and a blued steel barrel. It is of historical firearms significance in that it was the first large caliber metallic cartridge Deringer. In fact, after Moore’s was purchased by the National Arms Co., the Colt Firearms Co. bought National Arms and started making the pistol in 1870!

This one is engraved throughout, with floral scroll on the frame and barrel. The frame has a punch-dot background. The areas of checkering on the frame are outlined. The flat top of the barrel has a simple border, with a shield right over the breech. A scarce feature that is rarely seen on these is the stick arrows, engraved on either side of the barrel.

The overall condition is very fine. 80% of the silver plate remains with strong traces of blue finish. The markings and engravings are clear. The bore is in good condition with strong rifling. The action remains excellent. There are few better examples that you will find of this very rare, historic single shot pistol.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 2-1/2 inches.
