GEN. K.E. ROCKEY. 39” o/a with pre WW2 26” signed Arsenal made blade and military mounts. Leather covered shirasaya scabbard with ring mount. Very good overall with blade needing re-polishing. Old and absolutely authentic tag states “LT. GEN. K.E. ROCKEY, U.S.M.C. /5TH MARINE DIVISION/2-26-45/TOBIISHI POINT-/IWO JIMA”. Back of tag with old ink drawing of tang signature. Found in the attic of a local home in the 1960’s. General Rockey commanded the 5th Marine Division which was the main assault element in the Iwo Jima campaign and the capture of Mount Suribachi. The flag raised on Mt. Suribachi was by six Marines of the 28th Regiment of the 5th Marine Division under Gen. Rockey’s command. SOLD |
