This Smith & Wesson Military and Police Model revolver in .38 Special is a spectacular all-original example made after World War 1 in 1920 or 1921. This beautiful revolver has obviously spent it's entire life in storage and appears unfired! These early production M&P revolvers are really works of art despite being a "mass produced" model from the firm. Everything about this revolver is first class, from the fit and finish of the parts to the smoothness and precision of the action. These revolvers were built by hand by the best gunsmiths that Smith & Wesson could find. This example is serial number 538350 and it features a beautiful factory gloss-blue finish on the square-butt frame, cylinder, and barrel, a case-colored hammer and trigger, a 6-shot cylinder, a 4" inch barrel with fixed sights, and checkered American Walnut "diamond" grips. The original finish on this M&P is amazing and rates 98% plus, with the only deductions coming from an extremely faint drag-line around the cylinder and a few tiny spots of marring/wear visible only under very close inspection. You really have to look very hard to find anything to justify a 2% deduction, especially considering this Smith is nearly 100 years old! All of the screw heads on this 5-screw gun are in perfect un-turned condition with no marring. The case-colored hammer and trigger rate 98% plus as well, with both parts still showing bright colors and full coverage. The bore in this M&P is mirror-bright and flawless. The rifling still looks brand-new with sharp lands and grooves and no visible erosion, pitting, or imperfections. The 6 cylinder bores are equally as pristine and like-new. The barrel, forcing cone, and cylinder show ZERO evidence of having been fired. The original factory checkered Walnut "diamond" grips are beautiful and in excellent condition, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major dings/scratches/wear. You really have to look close to find any tiny handling/storage marks. The checkering is crisp and clean with no soiling, and both grip panels are flawlessy fit to the gun and tight to the frame. The action on this Military & Police Model really has to be felt to truly be appreciated. It is extremely smooth and precise, with a great hand-tuned feel that cannot be duplicated by a machine. The action is perfectly "in time" whether the action is worked fast or slow, single or double-action. The trigger is excellent, particularly when used in single-action operation. All in all, this 1920-21 production Smith & Wesson M&P Model in .38 Special would be a superb addition to any S&W or general firearms collection. You would not be able to upgrade from this beauty as it has to be one of the nicest examples of it's type in existence.
