Description:
Wonderful mid-1800s oil painting of a ruffed grouse family by Howard L. Hill (d. 1870). Hill was the English-born maternal grandfather of Norman Rockwell. Hill exhibited at the National Academy of Design in New York City in 1865 and 1866. The Smithsonian Institution's Inventory of American Paintings lists a number of his paintings with titles such as Farm Yard, Crane on a Lake, and Ducks in a Landscape. Walnut and guilt frame. Purchased from Holland & Holland in New York. This painting came from a family estate in the mid-Hudson Valley. Wonderful condition. Dimensions: 46" Long X 33.5" Wide.
