Description:
SOLD....REDUCED PRICE....Very early 1st model 1886 Winchester. Here is a decent and hard to find very early antique 1886 Winchester. S/N 3791 and made in very early 1887. Just misses first year production by a few hundred guns. 1st year guns ended in S/N 3211.... Has the standard 26” octagon barrel. Caliber in is 40-82. The bore is very good with good rifling and show the normal black powder roughness that is light with no big craters or breaks in the rifling. NO rings or bulges. The mechanics are excellent and it feeds, fires and ejects just fine. NO backed out primers or bulged cases. The gun's finish has been cleaned long ago and is now an antique gray finish. Scattered specks of staining and surface crud. No pitting.. Some light scratches by the caliber marking on the barrel and a little on the left side of the receiver. Nothing deep or detracting from this ole 86.. The receiver case colors have silvered out with good pattern of silvered case colors remaining. NO bright case colors showing at all. Just the silver finish that the case colors turn to after fading. All the markings are excellent as you can see. Still has the original rear sight and elevator and the front sight is the original rocky mountain blade type used on these very early 86's... The screws are still sharp and not all burred up from tinkering and all are serviceable. The wood is pretty good on this ole gun. The forearm fits very well with a small grain split coming off the front forearm cap as you can see in the close up photos.. Some wear showing on the bottom were it meets the receiver from saddle pommel wear. This gun has road many miles on horse back for sure. Shows great character.. No other split, crates or issues. The butt stock is nice as well but showing a tiny chip off the left side were it meets the receiver and upper tang. Very small and does not detract. There is a tight grain crack coming off of the butt plate on the right side as you can see is also very minor. Also has a chip out of the butt toe on the bottom that has been secured by a small nail as you can also see in the close up photos. No other issues and it fits very tight to all the surrounding metal with no gaps or “shrinkage”... Looks like it might have has some tape on the right side as it is slightly discolored as you can probably see in the stock photo. Probably some old tape for a label of some sort??? Who knows and it could be easily removed with a little oil and some rubbing if so desired. This is not a bad 86 at all, it just shows honest wear for a very early probably hard used gun. Has absolutely seen lots of miles on horse back but never abused that I can see. These early 1st models are pretty hard to find in still good working condition with good shootable bores. The price is now more than fair. Don't miss this one.... $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos.
