The Remington Model 700 SPS (Special Purpose Synthetic) rifle was introduced in 2005 and was available in various calibers in either a 24" or 26" inch barrel. The Model 700 SPS features a matte black factory finish on all of the metal parts, an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, the X-Mark Pro adjustable trigger, and a black synthetic stock with a factory installed "R3" or "Supercell" recoil pad. This particular example was made in the first year of production, 2005, and features a 24" inch barrel chambered in .243 Winchester. It appears to have been used and shot very little, and remains in very good overall condition. The matte black factory finish shows a few minor handling and storage marks but nothing too bad, with the worst spot located on the left side of the receiver towards the rear. There is a close-up picture of this spot provided in the listing so you can see for yourself. The finish on the floorplate and triggerguard which is most often the place on these rifles that shows wear and handling marks is perfect on this rifle. The bore in this rifle is minty and bright, with nice sharp lands and grooves in the rifling and no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections. The black synthetoc stock is in excellent condition on this Remington, with no damage, wear, cracks, chips, or repairs visible. All of the controls are in perfect working order and the action is slick and precise. The adjustable X-Mark Pro trigger is superb at it's current settings, breaking with a light pull with no grit or slop. We have no doubt that this Model 700 SPS would shoot just as well today as it did when it left the factory in 2005. The .243 Winchester chambering is a perfect cartridge for varmits and thin skinned game, and has very minimal recoil for those that are recoil-sensitive or new to shooting. This Remington would be an excellent addition to any hunting rifle collection or the perfect choice for someone's first centerfire rifle.
