Payment Types Accepted: checks, cashiers/bank check, money order Description: EXCEEDINGLY RARE .50 CALIBER “BUFFALO GUN” No. 1 ROLLING BLOCK OCTAGON SPORTING RIFLE, #3XXX, MADE 1870s. These big Remingtons in .50-70 caliber were made in very limited quantities and almost never seem to show up for sale. Standard length barrels were 26” with a charge for each additional two-inches of length. This example is a full 30” and measured about an inch at the muzzle. It also has the correct beveled octagon edge muzzle crown unique to Remington that shows it has never been cut down. The barrel is just a hair smaller diameter than the receiver and can only be detected by running a thumb nail between the octagon receiver ring and barrel. Has the matching serial number on the bottom of the barrel under the forearm. Correct E. Remington barrel markings along with the caliber designation “50” on the bottom flat ahead of the forearm. Correct sharp patent dates on the side of the receiver ending in 1873. Receiver is a naturally aged and uncleaned gray/brown. The barrel is also gray/brown with original Remington buckhorn rear sight and front sight. Tight action and fine bore that is a little dark with fine rifling all the way through and only a little “frosty” but not cratered/pitted. Butt stock and forearm have not been sanded or refinished in any way and show only normal light handling with very good wood to metal fit. This is a really fine example of a super difficult to find western Remington buffalo gun.
