CLASSY LITTLE POLICE POSITIVE TARGET .22 LONG RIFLE CALIBER REVOLVER, #24XXX, MADE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE “ROARING TWENTIES” IN 1925. This example has seen use, but no abuse. It is mechanically very tight and locks up today as it did when new almost 95 years ago. This is the flat top version of the Police Positive with adjustable target sights. Until 1923 hard rubber grips were standard after which they were replaced with checkered walnut with silver Colt medallions, which this one has. No doubt, this was an outdoorsman’s side arm as it came out of here in Montana and shows holster and hunting wear. The barrel retains fine blue that has aged and dulled somewhat. All barrel markings are sharp with the correct last patent date being 1905. The cylinder also shows good lightly aged blue. The grip straps are gray/brown with better blue on the butt. The frame shows good aged blue mixing gray/brown. Might have been carried in a left-hand holster as it looks like a holster strap went over the left side of the frame behind the cylinder. Nice fire blue on the hammer back and sides of trigger. Solid grips show some wear to the checkering. Bore is a little dark with good rifling all the way through. Guns like this were hand fitted and tuned by the best craftsmen in the firearms industry at the time. Too expensive to ever produce today.
