Description:
This is a beautiful, complete vet bring-back Nazi P-38 Pistol rig.  The P-38 is a "byf 44" Mauser-manufactured example from 1944 that is 100% original and all-matching, complete with two original "Eagle 135" stamped magazines and the original 1944 dated holster.  The P-38 pistol was Nazi Germany's succesor to the P-08 Luger.  It was designed to be easier, faster, and cheaper to manufacture than the Luger, and did not require highly skilled labor to construct.  It proved to be an excellent weapon overall in filling the German Military's needs, reliable and accurate with the added ability to function in double-action operation.  This particular example remains in excellent condition overall, with the factory blue finish rating 95 to 96%.  As you can see from the pictures, the deductions from the finish are mainly from some minor high-edge wear from holster carry and some minor wear on the front grip strap, none of which take much away from the clean and attractive overall look of the gun.  The bore in this Mauser P-38 is mirror-bright and in excellent condition.  The rifling still shows sharp lands and grooves and there is no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections.  The original red-brown Bakelite grips on this gun are in superb condition, free from any cracks, chips, or repairs.  Both grip panels are tight to the gun with no wiggle.  All of the controls on this P-38 are in perfect working order, including the safety/de-cocking lever, and the internals are just as clean as the exterior.  The slide to frame fit is excellent and the action locks up perfectly.  There is no doubt that this Mauser P-38 will function just as well today as the day it left the factory 75 years ago.  The two original Mauser P-38 magazines that come with this pistol are both marked with a "P.38v" on the lower left side and both have the "Eagle 135" Waffenamt stamped on the spine.  The holster with this P-38 is really a neat piece.  It is marked with the code "bla" for the maker and the date 1944.  It has a nice, clear "Eagle 159" Waffenamt just below the maker's mark, and the large "P38" stamp to the right rear.  The leather is still soft and flexible and the stitching is all 100% original and intact.  The only damage to the holster is some wear to the extra mag pouch on the front lower edges, with a small hole at the corner.  This holster has a very ingenious period modification to the belt straps that was most certainly done by the American soldier that captured it.  A brass hanger was taken from a piece of U.S.gear and was riveted into the top of the belt straps, allowing the man who captured it to wear it on his U.S.G.I.belt while in theatre/combat.  If you have been looking for a complete "collector grade" Nazi P-38 rig for your collection this all-original and complete "byf 44" rig would be an excellent choice.
