Description:
This is an original Sharps Model 1863 45-70 early carbine. The Sharps 1863 was employed during the Civil War and well over 100,000 of these work horses were produced. The lower serial number on this gun indicates that this rifle was an early model. After the Civil War these guns were very popular and sought after by settlers and hunters due to their accuracy and long range capabilities up to 700 yards.
The overall condition of this rifle appears to be very good. The barrel retains about 60% of its original bluing and the bore is bright and clean with very sharp rifiling throughout the entire length of the barrel. Most markings are clear and legible including the Sharps Pat Oct 5th, 1852 and the R.S. Lawrence Pat April 12, 1859. You will find the action on this carbine is in excellent working condition. Both the stock and the forearm have some small dings and scratches as seen in the following pictures. The stock has a hairline crack at the bottom that runs up from the buttplate (approximately 3"). The stock is very firm and tight. We think that you'll find this to be an overall excellent example of the 1863 Sharps carbine.
