Description:
Federal War of 1812 Period American Flintlock Pistol
The round, 8 1/4", smoothbore, .58 caliber (measures .625), pin-fastened, iron, proof-marked 10 3/8 inch long barrel (suspect Birmingham proofs) with a smooth and untouched, brown-gray age patina, a “LONDON” barrel-address and a fine touch-hole. Overall length is 16 inches. Molded and simply carved American Black walnut full stock of typical Federal/War of 1812 Period design, having a slightly bulbous and heavy, "cane-handle" type grip, lightly engraved American sheet brass and possibly recycled English furniture, trigger-guard with a flower engraved bow, a flat “S”- shaped sideplate: retains both of its sidebolts, English replacement “Trade”- type lock with a flat lockplate, gooseneck hammer, a bridle-less rounded powder pan. A classic example of a Federal/War of 1812 Period American flintlock pistol, circa. early 1800s. Plain wood ramrod. Action works on first stage, cock will go back further but does not lock back.
