Description:
General Specs: Winchester, Year 1948, .410 Gauge, 6lbs 4oz, Chokes Skeet, LOP 14 1/2", DAH 2 1/2" , DAC 1 3/8"
Serial Number: 73901

The Model 42 is an icon in the ranks of Winchester firearms, made in the days of the highest quality control and hand fitted parts.  The Model 42 was a flawlessly produced little pump gun, chambered only for the diminutive .410 shotgun shell.  The Winchester Model 42 has been held dear in the eyes of the .410 aficionado, and there has been a strong following for the upgraded guns that have been highly decorated with fine floral scroll, gold inlays, fancy wood, etc.   Angelo Bee was a well-known Browning Superposed master engraver, having worked at the FN plant in Belgium from 1951 to 1975, after which he moved to the USA.  Master Engraver Angelo Bee is a sought-after engraving artist that has been responsible for many of these fine upgrades, and as he winds down his life’s work spanning decades, the attention to his accomplishments is multiplying rapidly.  There are many fine gun enthusiasts that have made Angelo Bee works of art part of their investment strategy and collecting goals.  There will always be buyers for his best creations, and this is one of his best in the way of perfection, execution, and sheer beauty of the subject matter.  This beautiful Model 42, sn73901 originally built in 1948, is a grand example of an Angelo Bee custom Winchester M42.  The deeply cut acanthus style scroll is shaded by a finely stippled background and covers most of the receiver minus the game scene and border areas.  The barrel has a 2” wedge of engraving at the breech and 1” wedge at muzzle, and the trigger guard is engraved as well.  There is fine gold wire embellishing the perimeter of the receiver, the muzzle, and a bit on the trigger guard.  The serial numbers are inlaid in gold.  The foliage in the game scenes is done with gold wire.  The game scenes are fabulous, with highly detailed, large, raised gold birds and dogs.  There are 8 heavy gold inlays in all.  If you study fine engraved guns you will note that the details in the gold inlays, the depth and sharpness of the scroll cuts, the perfection of execution, is what separates the masterpieces from the wannabees.  There are a lot of mediocre engraved M42’s for sale and if you are spending this kind of money for fine gun art, you should closely scrutinize the quality of the work.  Few offered for sale at any price will compare to this masterpiece from Mr.Bee.  The stunning 3X walnut stocks, checkered like Winchester’s B-carved patterns with Flor-de-lis  cavings and ribbons, are carved to perfection.  We all love gorgeous wood on our guns and we have that here for sure!  What a gorgeous gun to have in your collection and to utilize in the field.  These guns are sure to go up in value as Angelo Bee begins to slow down and retire in the next year or so.  A great investment vehicle and source of pride and shooting pleasures, a Winchester Model 42 custom built by Angelo Bee is a gun you should have in your collection!  Thanks for looking.
