Description:
General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1898, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 10oz, Chokes CYL/LM
Serial Number: 4151

The Quality A-1 was a very handsome sidelock ejector gun with a relatively short production run that lasted from 1892 to 1898.  During that period a total of only 752 A-1 guns were made; 29 in 10ga., 713 in 12ga., and 10 total made in 16ga.  They only offered the 16ga. in the final 2 years of production, hence the extremely low production.   The Quality A-1 can be found with several engraving patterns, most fairly sparse in coverage.  The “early style” engraving pattern was by far the most elaborate and desirable.  The frames were gracefully sculpted, with shaping very refined and indicative of a finely made best gun.  This gun, sn4151 made in 1898, is graced with the very detailed “early style” engraving and is in very nice factory original condition…only the wood has seen some finish applied over the years and a new pad has been installed.  What a great find, with modern shootable dimensions, fine chain Damascus barrels with perfect mirror bores, 30 thousandths minimum wall thickness anywhere on either barrel, no cracks or repairs in the buttstock, gorgeous, highly figured English walnut with perfect 28LPI checkering (we can restore the wood with a perfect hand rubbed oil finish, removing all nicks and dings, for $400 within 8 weeks of purchase…the wood would really “pop” if done, but we wanted that to be up to the new owner), mechanically excellent with perfectly timed ejectors, solid 3 position auto-safety, a great gun all around.  This is not just a collector gun.  It is fully capable of shooting the 1 ounce 16ga. loads at upland birds or clay targets and is choked Cyl/LM for excellent upland capabilities.  THIS GUN IS THE DEFINITION OF RARE AND SHOULD BE IN ANY AVID L.C. SMITH COLLECTORS GUN CASE.  If you like the guns restored, we can provide that service to historical perfection in a very reasonable amount of time.  When they only made 10 of them, this is truly your only chance to own such a fine Elsie.  Don’t let this one get away!  Thanks for looking.
