Description:
General Specs: Franchi, Year 1948, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 9oz, M/F, LOP 14 1/16", DAH 2 3/8", DAC 1 1/2"
Serial Number: 10396

Those that enjoy truly fine side x side shotguns are aware that the Brescia gunmaking region of Italy has produced some of the finest guns in the world and that they are most known for the fantastic engraving as seen on this fine double gun, a S. A. Luigi Franchi Imperial Monte Carlo, one of their top grades ever produced.  This gun, sn10396 made in 1948, is a 9-pin full sidelock ejector round action, with cocking indicators, sculpted frame, beaded fences, and profuse 100% coverage of super fine rose, vine, and scroll engraving that is executed to perfection.  In my position I have seen and handled literally thousands of fine double guns, many of them the finest to have ever been crafted anywhere in the world, and the engraving on this gun will stand up to the very best of traditionally engraved shotguns.  The gun was built as a lightweight game gun, weighing just 6lbs. 9oz. and balanced to perfection 1/8” ahead of the hinge pin with the 28” Chromium Steel barrels that still have perfect mirror bores and factory 2 ¾” chambers.  The hand-filed concave game rib is tight, the barrels are tight on the hinge pin and breech face like a new gun, and the factory original blue stands at 97%.  The action has been stripped and placed in our Ultrasonic cleaner, all parts inspected for function and integrity, lubricated and reassembled, making this a VFI CERTIFIED GUN WITH A 90 DAY MECHANICAL WARRANTY.  The mechanics, screws, wood-to-metal fit are all perfect.  The triggers are crisp, and the front trigger is articulated as you would expect on a BEST GUN, and the ejectors are super strong and perfectly timed.  The rounded action is stocked to the fences (again, BEST GUN features) with a fine European walnut stock, has no cracks, has been restored with 10 coats of Truoil finish, and the checkering has been recut as well.  The stock terminates at the butt with the original horn butt plate that is in superb condition.  This gun did not see much use in the last 70 years.  Perfect for your upland pursuits, it is difficult to find a 6lb. 9oz. 12ga. gun that balances so perfectly and is such a pleasure to carry long distances over hill and dale.  The gun would serve equally well on your vintage side x side shoots as well.  Thanks for looking, and this one is priced well below the market value, so don’t hesitate or she will be gone!
