Description:
The Colt Burgess was the product of several designs patented by Andrew Burgess between 1873 and 1882. The trademark Colt- Burgess Rifle was an enhancement of the Whitney-Burgess rifle. Marketed by Colt, the product had a short run, though it was no fault of its own. Colt stopped making lever action guns in 1884 after producing only 3810 rifles and 2593 carbines when Winchester, threatened by Colt's encroachment into the lever action rifle business, made it known that it planned to go after Colt's single-action revolver business. The Burgess is still a beloved model in many shooter's collections today with its classic lever action feel and unique action. The Burgess will be a great piece to enhance any collection.
This particular Burgess is in very good condition retaining 60% of its original bluing on the barrel. The bore is in good condition and the stock and forearm are void of any cracks or checks. Only a few small dings are present on the stock. This gun is very good mechanical condition with all original parts. The original engraving is clear and well defined. This particular gun is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Colt Manufacturing. This is a great example of a Colt-Burgess. It would be very hard to find another Burgess in this condition with the limited number of rifles that were produced.
