Fine GORGEOUS Antique Percussion HOWDAH PISTOL
Engraved, Damascus Barrel, w Gold Designs
Here we present an antique Double Barrel Percussion Pistol, made circa the 1850s in Belgium. This pistol is massive, very much in the style of the British Howdah, which was designed to have at least two (sometimes more) massive bores for hunting dangerous game like tigers up close and personal in India. This pistol is essentially a double-barreled percussion shotgun in pistol form.
The barrels on this specimen were made in a swirling Damascus pattern. Beautiful gold inlay is present over the breech. Within intricate vining designs on each barrel stands a stag. The rib reads “Damas Turr”. The barrel tang, trigger guard and each of the locks are nicely engraved. The walnut stock has a carved, fluted grip. There is a simple brass, conical bead sight over the muzzle. This was an elegant pistol meant for big-game hunting.
The overall condition is very fine. The Damascus pattern is excellent with 90% of the gold remaining. Markings and engravings are clear. The stock is fine. The bores are smooth and bright. The action is crisp and excellent. Here is a unique and beautiful double barrel pistol from the mid-19th Century!
