Description:
This is a very handsome WW2-production Winchester M1 Garand rifle that was purchased from an online CMP in 2002.  It comes complete with a completed data sheet, the CMP invoice/receipt, a copy of the email the CMP sent to the purchaser, and the CMP inventory tag still attached to the front sight.  While it did go thru a rebuild, all of the parts retain their original factory Parkerized finish, including the Winchester receiver.  This is a very nice example of the U.S. Military's main battle rifle of World War 2 and Korea by one of America's most famous gunmakers.  As you can see from the pictures, this Garand has a very attractive look to it.  The parkerized finishes on the metal parts are all consistent in appearance and show only very minor wear.  The green-gray parkerizing of the receiver, operating rod, trigger group, and barrel are particularly handsome.  The bore in this Winchester is mirror-bright and in excellent condition.  The rifling still shows sharp and clean lands and grooves and there is no visible pitting, erosion, or imperfections.  The throat on this rifle gauges a "2" and the muzzle gauges a "1", for all intents and purposes a "new" barrel.  The stock set is a nice dark red/brown D.O.D. marked example.  Both the stock and handguards are in very good condition and free from any cracks, chips, or repairs, and all of the stock hardware is in place and tight.  This American Walnut stock set shows some small dings and minor handling marks but has a very clean look to it overall.  The Department Of Defense cartouche on the left side of the stock is a little faint but still legible.  The action on this M1 Garand is slick and strong, and all of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order.  This Winchester should shoot just as accurately and reliably today as when it first left the Winchester factory in 1943.  If you have been looking for a great-looking WW2-production M1 Garand for your collection, this CMP papered Winchester would be an excellent choice.
